In the summer of 2020, we began work on the expansion of the Gardermoen treatment plant (UGRA). The goal of the project is to double the capacity and meet Norway's strictest treatment requirements. To achieve this, a new treatment stage has been added, ensuring an impressive 98% phosphorus removal.

Background of the project

Sune Hansen, who has extensive experience in ELIQUO PMI (formerly Enwa) and is the project manager for UGRA, explains that the contract was won due to three main factors: price, quality, and execution capability. "We submitted a competitive offer that balanced cost-effectiveness with high quality and reliable execution," says Sune.

Challenges and solutions

The treatment plant faces Norway's strictest requirements for phosphorus removal, which has necessitated careful process choices and technical solutions. The new treatment process, which includes an additional treatment stage, has been developed to meet these requirements. "This has been a challenging task, but we have used modern design tools and proven technology to ensure that we achieve our goals," Sune explains.

Project progress

By the summer of 2024, the project reached a significant milestone: all installations have been completed, and process testing has begun. "We have met all key milestones along the way and are confident that the treatment plant will be ready to meet the strict requirements by January 1, 2025," assures Sune.

The importance of the team

Although this was the largest contract ELIQUO had signed to date, the project has mostly gone smoothly. "We have an amazing team with exactly the competence required," says Sune. He praises the team for their effort and dedication throughout the project.
